South Side is a climbing area in the Washakie Ranger District of Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Squaretop Boulder and Moss Cave & Face Dancer both about 0.1 mile away, and Sinks Canyon Campground about 0.2 mile off. That makes it an easy base for a day of sport climbing in the district. The area's routes are all sport, and they run from about 5.10c up to 5.12a. Among them are Isolate and Dominate at 5.10c, Boys of Brazil at 5.11b/c and American Man Meat at 5.12a, which Jess Brown first climbed in 2011. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Lander run to highs around 88°F in July, with lows near 55°F. That station sits about 1,500 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures up high run cooler. Winter is cold, with January highs around 33°F and lows near 10°F.
