Sacajawea Campground sits on the Middle Piney Road just east of Middle Piney Lake in the Big Piney Ranger District of Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the campground is set in a cool, shaded area along Middle Piney Creek, surrounded by trees. The site has vault toilets, water and trash service, and trailer-sized sites for campers who bring their own rigs. There are no trailer hookups. A campground host is typically on duty from July 1 through Labor Day. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 82°F in July, with lows near 42°F. That station sits about 1,300 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures here run cooler. The campground puts you in the heart of the Big Piney Ranger District, with quick access to the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail, Middle Piney Lake, the North Piney Lake ATV trail and the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. Long Hollow and Straight Creek are both hikes about 0.7 miles away, and Middle Piney Lake Campground is about 2 miles off.
