West IEP M8 is a short, easy cross-country ski route in Washington, managed by the State Department of Land. It is an out-and-back of about 1.5 miles, with a low point of 3,695 feet and a high of 3,749 feet. The climb is gentle, with a total elevation gain of 34 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.33 miles in, with a grade of 11 percent. The most comfortable months for a ski outing are typically July and August, when typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 84°F and only four or five wet days a month. That station sits well below the route, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. Winter is cold, with January highs around 34°F and lows near 21°F. Moose Meadows, another cross-country ski area, and the Twin Lakes hike are both about 2 miles away. Ragged Ridge and Wild Moose are a little farther, at about 2.2 miles.
