Chipmunk Trail is a short cross-country ski route in the Newport Ranger District of Washington's Colville National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is less than half a mile long and is an out-and-back, with the high point at about 2,488 feet and the low point at about 2,482 feet. It is a flat route, with a total gain and loss of about 8 feet each way. Winter is the natural season for cross-country skiing here. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Newport run from highs around 32°F in December and January to about 68°F in May, with lows in the 20s through most of the year. The station sits several hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail tend to run a little cooler. The trail lies close to other routes for skiers and hikers. Cougar Trail and Ponderosa Trail are both about 0.1 mile away, and Whitetail Trail is a hike of similar distance. No Name Lake campground is about 3 miles off.
