About Stevens Pass Greenway

Stevens Pass Greenway is a 98.8-mile scenic drive across Washington that carries three designations: National Scenic Byway, National Forest Scenic Byway, and Washington State Scenic Byway. Part of the route runs through national forest land. It links a string of communities from Monroe on the west end to Cashmere on the east. Heading east from Monroe, the road passes through Sultan, Startup, Gold Bar, and Index before reaching Baring and Skykomish. Beyond those, it continues on to Leavenworth and finishes near Cashmere. These towns give natural places to break up the drive. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. A nearby weather station in Monroe, at 120 feet, records typical August highs around 75°F with only about six wet days. The station sits at the low western end of the route, so temperatures on higher stretches run cooler. Plenty sits within a short distance of the road. Hikers can head to the Heybrook Lookout Trail or the Iron Goat Trail, and Money Creek Campground offers a place to stay overnight. Paddlers can look to the Tye River.
