Alone Boulder is a bouldering area in Virginia, set within the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and managed by the National Park Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas, with the Kuma Area, Portal Area and End of the Line Area all about 0.1 mile away, and Golden Boulder about 0.2 mile off. The Tuscalachian Loop, a hike across the line in West Virginia, is about 0.3 mile away. The area is a bouldering destination only, with nine routes all rated on the V scale. The grades run from V2+ up to V6, with Million Dollar Mistake at the top end. The Rock House and Snared are both V2+. The most comfortable months for a visit are late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 73°F, while July peaks near 82°F. That station sits about 550 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler.
