About Cedar Breaks Scenic Byway (U-148)
Cedar Breaks Scenic Byway (U-148) is a 7.6-mile National Forest Scenic Byway in the Cedar City Ranger District of Dixie National Forest in southern Utah. Utah has also designated it a State Scenic Byway, so the road carries both federal and state recognition. The route passes through the community of North View. At 7.6 miles, the drive is short and can easily be paired with a walk on one of the trails close to the road. Summer is the most comfortable season. At a nearby weather station, July typically averages highs around 68°F and lows near 51°F, while winter highs typically stay near freezing. As of October 2026, forest-wide alerts for Dixie National Forest list temporary road closures on Webster Flat Road and Brian Head Peak Road. These alerts cover the wider forest rather than the byway itself and may change, so check them before you go. Several trailheads sit right along the drive. Sunset Trail and Alpine Pond Trail are each about 0.1 mile from the road, and South Rim Trail is about 0.3 mile away. Mountain bikers can reach the Virgin River Rim Trail segment from Te-Ah Campground to Woods Ranch, about 1.4 miles off the route.
