Monitor and Merrimac Buttes is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land within the Moab Field Office in Utah. The surrounding area is a cluster of trails and climbing spots, so it works well as a base for a day or longer in the Moab region. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 78°F and October highs around 68°F, while July averages climb to about 96°F. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet lower than the buttes, so temperatures up high run cooler. The closest trails are the Buttes and Towers Trail, about a mile away, and the Sevenmile Rim Trail, about 1.2 miles off. Tusher Canyon, a climbing area about 1.3 miles away, and the Seven Mile Wash Trail, about 1.4 miles away, round out the options. For an overnight stay, Lone Mesa Group Sites and Courthouse Rock Campground are both about 4 miles away.
