The Out & Back is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Utah, about a mile from the town of Mound City. The route is roughly 1.5 miles long, with a total elevation gain of about 440 feet, and it reaches a high point of about 6,578 feet. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically June and September. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show June highs around 78°F and September highs around 75°F, with July the warmest month at about 88°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the summit run a little cooler. Two other hikes start within a third of a mile: the Mid Mountain Loop and the Spring Pond Loop Trail. Farther afield, the Guardsman climbing area and Lake Catherine are both within about six miles.
