Soapstone Ponds is a 6.3-mile out-and-back hike in the Heber-Kamas Ranger District of Utah's Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, about 6 miles from Kamas. The trail rises from a low point of 7,525 feet to a high of 7,791 feet, with an elevation gain of 244 feet on the way up. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced, open to both horses and bikes. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Kamas put July highs around 84°F with lows near 50°F, and the station sits roughly 1,300 feet below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The trail is open from June 1 through October 31. The Recess climbing area sits just 0.2 miles away, and Shady Dell campground is about 2 miles off. Farther out, the North Fork Provo River hike and the Lower Provo River campground are each within about 4 miles.
