Phosphate is an easy out-and-back hike in Wasatch Mountain State Park in Utah, managed by State Park and Recreation. The trail is about 3.6 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 658 feet, taking you from a low point of about 6,095 feet to a high of about 6,785 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 88°F with lows near 47°F, while September cools to highs around 75°F. That station sits about 775 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures up top run cooler. The Happy Camper and The Face hikes both start within a quarter mile, and Rock Creek offers canoeing about 3.4 miles away. For an overnight stay, Jordanelle State Park McHenry Campground is about 5.6 miles off.
