Lake Hardy is a hard hike in Utah's Lone Peak Wilderness, within the Pleasant Grove Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,568 feet to 9,944 feet, a total gain of 2,345 feet over 4.1 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open to horses. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Alta, at a lower elevation, show July highs around 73°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay around 30°F. The station sits about 1,200 feet below the high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. The open season runs from June 1 to October 31. The North Mountain Trail and First Hamongog are both within a mile. Climbers can head to the South Side Boulders, about a mile away, and Granite Flat campground is roughly 4.7 miles off.
