Big Elk Lake is a 4-mile out-and-back hike in the Heber-Kamas Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah. The trail rises from about 10,032 feet to 10,581 feet, a moderate climb of about 555 feet, and it is managed by the Forest Service. The route is natural-surfaced and open to horses, and it is not an accessible trail. The trip runs from late spring to early fall, with the open season running from June 1 to October 31. That makes summer and early fall the most comfortable times to go. Nearby, Beaver Lake, about 1.4 miles away, offers river fishing, and Duck Lake and Marjorie Lake, each under 2 miles off, are other hikes. Washington Lake, about 3.3 miles away, is a campground.
