Big Chief Boulder is a bouldering area on city land in Texas, about 3.5 miles from the Austin-Camp Mabry weather station. It sits among several other bouldering spots, including Back Wall, Frontside Boulders and Parking Lot Boulders, all within about a tenth of a mile. The area is managed by the city. The climbing here is all bouldering, with seven routes ranging from V1 to V3. Big Chief and Sloper Groper are both V1, and Daddy's Little Daddy is the hardest at V3. The boulders are close together, so it's easy to move from one to another. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Austin-Camp Mabry station show April highs around 80°F and October highs around 83°F, while July and August average in the upper 90s. Mountain bikers can find Top Trail West and Sculpture Falls Drop-In about 7.5 miles away, and Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail is just under 8 miles off.
