Avalanche Xpress is a short, looping ski touring route in Pennsylvania, about half a mile from the town of Longstown. The loop is 0.35 miles long, with a high point of 684 feet and a low of 607 feet. The climb is gentle, with a total gain of 47 feet and a total loss of 68 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.23 miles in, with a 10% grade. The route is best suited to a day when you want to add a short outing to a longer trip. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in York run to highs around 76°F in May and 80°F in September, with July the warmest month at about 88°F. Climbers will find Rocky Ridge and The Fins about 3.3 miles away, and Boulder View is 3.8 miles off. The 83 Link Trail is 4.8 miles away for a longer hike.
