About Great Lakes Seaway Trail

The Great Lakes Seaway Trail is a 46.5-mile National Scenic Byway in Pennsylvania. Its route runs through a string of communities: Lake City, Avonia, Erie, Lawrence Park, Wesleyville, Northwest Harborcreek and North East. That makes Erie the natural hub for planning a trip. As a drive, the byway works well in segments or end to end. With seven towns along the way, it is easy to break the trip into shorter stretches or link it with stops on foot, on a bike or on the water. Summer into early fall is the most comfortable time to go. At a nearby weather station, typical July highs average about 80°F with lows near 58°F, and September averages about 73°F by day and 50°F at night. Several outings sit close to the route. Transition Trail is just 0.1 mile away, and Presque Isle Bay offers lake fishing at under a mile. Mountain bikers can reach the Greenway Trail about 1.4 miles off the byway, and hikers can try the Harborcreek Trail roughly 1.9 miles away.
