North Horse Loop is an easy 1.6-mile hike in Tryon Creek State Natural Area, a city-managed natural area in Oregon. The trail rises from a low point of about 150 feet to a high of about 330 feet, with a total climb of 225 feet and a total descent of 419 feet over the course of the route. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 80 to 81°F, with only three or four wet days a month. Winter is much wetter, with about 19 to 20 wet days a month from December through February. West Horse Loop and Maple Ridge Trail both start about 0.2 miles away, and Fourth Avenue Trail is a mountain biking option at the same distance. Fanno Creek, a paddling spot, lies about 4 miles off.
