Lakes End is a primitive Forest Service campground on the north shore of Smith Reservoir in the McKenzie River Ranger District of Oregon's Willamette National Forest. It is accessed by boat only, and it suits those seeking a remote, off-the-beaten-path camping experience. Basic facilities include tables, vault toilets and fire pits. There is no potable water, and garbage service is not provided. Visitors are expected to follow a pack-in pack-out camp and Leave No Trace guidelines. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 83°F with only about four wet days, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The McKenzie River, about 1.6 miles away, offers canoeing. The Waterfalls hike and the Ice Cap campground are both about 2.4 miles off, and Coldwater Cove is about 3.4 miles away.
