Buckhorn Campground is a Forest Service site in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, part of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Oregon. It sits within the recreation area's boundaries, and the land is managed by the Forest Service. The site has vault toilets, and no fees are required to use it. That makes it a simple base for an overnight stay in the area, with no cost to set up camp. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 81°F with only about five or six wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days from December through February. Several trails lie within a short drive. The Imnaha Trail is about 4 miles away, the Nez Perce National Historic Trail about 5 miles, and the Rowley Gulch Trail about 6 miles. Vigne Campground, roughly 9 miles off, offers another camping option.
