Ross Hollow is a 3.5-mile loop hike in Tar Hollow State Park in Ohio, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. The trail rises from about 940 feet to a high point of 1,155 feet, with a total elevation gain of 391 feet. The climb is rated easy, and the steepest stretch comes at about 2.8 miles in, where the grade reaches 16 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Chillicothe run to highs around 74°F in May and 79°F in September, and the station sits about 500 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the ridge run a little cooler. Several other trails lie close by. The Logan Backpack Trail - North Loop is under a mile away, and the Homestead Trail is about 1.3 miles off. Paddlers can head to Walnut Creek, about 4.3 miles away, and Tar Hollow Horse Camp offers camping roughly 5.2 miles from the trail.
