Mount Ives - Barbwire is an easy out-and-back hike in Great Seal State Park in Ohio, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. The nearest town is Metzger, about 2.3 miles away. The route is short, about 0.64 miles round trip, and gains about 213 feet of elevation. It is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch near the start, where the grade reaches about 13%. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Chillicothe Mound City weather station show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 79°F, with that station sitting well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler.
