Bald Knob Trail Old is a short out-and-back hike in southern Ohio, about 1.3 miles from the town of Metzger. The trail is 0.72 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 168 feet from the low point at 872 feet to the high point at 1,056 feet. The climb is gentle, and the round trip is estimated to take about half an hour. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Chillicothe show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 79°F, while July and August average about 85°F. That station sits roughly 400 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the knob run a little cooler. The Pit and Sand Hill climbing areas are each about 0.3 miles away, and Rocky Knob and Grouse Rock are both within a mile.
