Nags Head: Loggerhead Beach Access

Loggerhead Beach Access is a public entry point to the beach in Nags Head, North Carolina, managed by the Town of Nags Head. It sits about 1.2 miles from the community of Sound Side. The access has parking, and there is no fee to use it. Typical averages from the Manteo airport weather station, about 5 miles away, show warm summers and mild winters. July is the hottest month, with highs around 86°F and lows near 73°F. June and August are close behind, with highs in the low to mid 80s. Late spring and early fall are milder. May averages highs around 75°F, September about 79°F, and October about 71°F. Winter is cool, with January highs near 51°F and lows around 36°F, and snow days average zero year-round. Rain is spread fairly evenly through the year, from about six to nine wet days a month. July is the wettest at nine, and September through November are the driest at six. Several short walks lie within a few miles. The closest are the FR TR HQ/Lost Colony Admin Bldg Trail, about 5 miles away, and the WB TR Historic Monument Trails and FR TR Freedmens Trail, both around 6 miles out. The BI BW Coquina Boardwalk is about 8 miles from the access.
