Wilderness is a cross-country ski route on the Rochester Museum & Science Center Lands in New York, about a mile from the center of Rochester. The land is managed by a non-governmental organization, and the route is an out-and-back that starts and ends at roughly 1,969 feet. The trip is rated hard. The climb reaches a high point of 1,988 feet, with a total gain of 524 feet over the 2.1-mile round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.93 miles in, with a grade of 15 percent. Winter is the natural season for skiing here. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Honeoye show January highs around 33°F and lows near 16°F, with snow on about nine days that month. That station sits well below the route, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Several other ski routes lie within a mile, including Orange, Green and Blue.
