The Mamakating O&W Rail Trail is a short, flat mountain biking route in New York, about a mile from the town of Wurtsboro. It is an out-and-back trail of roughly 0.6 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 29 feet, so it is easy to ride and can be done in a single trip. The trail is nearly flat, with the high point at about 510 feet and the low point at about 505 feet. The steepest stretch comes early on, at about 0.12 miles in, with a grade of about 4 percent. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash. For comfortable weather, late spring through early fall works best. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Middletown show highs around 70°F in May and 73°F in September, with July peaking near 82°F. The D&H Canal Linear Park Towpath Trail is about 0.8 miles away, and the D&H Canal Towpath Trail is about 2.7 miles off. Paddlers can head to Basher Kill, about 4.2 miles away, and the Wurtsboro Ridge State Forest Upper O&W Rail Trail is about 4.3 miles away.
