10K Trail South is a cross-country ski route in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. It sits about a mile from Pino Canyon Overlook, which makes it easy to pair with other outings in the area. The trail is an out-and-back with a total length of about 2 miles and a one-way climb of roughly 260 feet. It starts at a low of about 9,400 feet and reaches a high of about 9,690 feet. Dogs are allowed. Winter is the natural season for skiing here. A nearby weather station records typical averages from a cold, snowy season, with January highs around 25°F and lows near 0°F, while July highs reach about 85°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the upper end run a little cooler. Pino Canyon Overlook is right next door at 0.1 mile. Pino Wall, a climbing area, is about half a mile away. Challenge Trail, another cross-country route, is 0.8 mile off. Tree Spring is a hike about a mile away.
