Schoolhouse Slab is a climbing area on Forest Service land in the El Rito Ranger District of Carson National Forest in New Mexico. It sits among several other climbing areas, including Beer Block, Gnar Wall and Route Canal and Big Pine Wall, all about a tenth of a mile away. The routes here are all sport climbs, and they all grade 5.7. Five of them are listed: Bolting Barney, Cobb It, Herby Goes Bananas (aka School Daze), Que? and School Bus. The first ascents are noted for some of them, with School Bus credited to Curtis Vinson, Vaino Kodas and Chris Morath in 2006. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the El Rito weather station, about 3 miles away, run to highs near 72°F in May and 76°F in September, while July and August bring the most wet days, around 9 to 10 a month. El Rito campground is about 3 miles away, and the Cdt - New Mexico Section and Cerro Negro Loop hikes are within roughly 9 miles.
