Big Block is a small climbing area in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among several other climbing spots and trails, including the Block Wall and the Cedro Creek Nature Trail, all within a tenth of a mile. The area has two sport climbing routes, Big Block 1 and Big Block 2, both graded 5.9-. They are the only routes listed here, so the climbing is compact rather than sprawling. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the Sandia Park weather station, about 12 miles away, show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 77°F, while winter highs sit in the low to mid 40s. Cedro Peak Road and Otero Canyon are both within a mile. The Ranger Station Wall is about 3 miles off, and the Crystal Ship and Glass House is roughly 5 miles away.
