Bear Mountain is a hard hike in the Camino Real Ranger District of Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico, about 6.7 miles long and climbing from roughly 8,659 feet to 11,076 feet. The Forest Service manages the land. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riding as well as walking. That makes it a flexible option for visitors who want to take a horse or ride a bike to the top. Santa Barbara campground and the Middle Fork Trail (24) sit about 1.2 miles away, and the Jicarita Creek hike is about 1.6 miles off. For time on the water, the Rio Santa Barbara canoe route is about 2.9 miles away.
