Upper Tier is a climbing area in Nevada on Bureau of Land Management land within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits close to the Red Spring (aka Turtle Shell) Boulder and the Lower Tier, so it makes an easy addition to a day spent exploring the cluster of boulders and routes around Red Rock. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to climb. A nearby weather station records typical average highs of about 70°F in April and 75°F in October, while July and August typically average around 94 to 95°F. The area has 33 routes, with trad the most common style and sport and mixed also well represented. Grades run from 5.3 to 5.12c, so there is something for climbers of all levels. Some of the named routes are Penny Lane (5.3 trad), From Soup to Nuts (5.7 mixed), Valentine's Day (5.8+ mixed) and The Distance (5.12c sport). Other climbing is right next door: the Warm-Up Boulder is about 0.1 mile away and the Red Spring Boulders are about 0.2 mile away. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 2.2 miles away.
