Scrub Brush is a short, easy mountain biking ride in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, on the Carson Ranger District. It is a 1.2-mile out-and-back with a total elevation gain of 636 feet, climbing from a low of about 6,119 feet to a high of about 6,356 feet. The route is rolling, and the steepest stretch comes early, around 0.22 miles in, at about 12 percent grade. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail sits within about half a mile of the Mahogany Forest bike area. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to ride. Typical averages from the nearby Stead weather station show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 79°F, with July peaking near 89°F and winter highs in the low 40s. That station sits roughly 1,250 feet below the trail, so expect cooler temperatures on the climb. The Bacon Strip and Eastern Trail hikes lie about 0.1 mile away, and the Keystone Boulder climbing area is about 2.3 miles off.
