McCurdy Creek is a 5.2-mile out-and-back hike in the Ely Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada. The trail rises from about 7,500 feet to a high point of 8,444 feet, with a total elevation gain of 960 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is rated moderate. The trail is natural-surface and bikes are allowed, making it a practical choice for riders as well as hikers. The trip is open year-round, so you can plan a visit at any time of year. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ruth, Nevada, show July highs around 84°F and September highs around 75°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Winter brings highs in the upper 30s and regular snow days from December through February.
