Hyalite Canyon Trail is a short, easy cross-country ski route in Montana's Custer Gallatin National Forest, within the Bozeman Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is an out-and-back that covers about 0.9 miles with a total elevation gain of about 30 feet. The high point is roughly 6919 feet, and the low point is about 6879 feet, so the climb is minimal. Winter is the natural season for this trail. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Big Sky show January highs around 30°F with lows near 9°F, while July highs reach about 78°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run slightly cooler. The trail starts close to several other spots. Maxey Cabin and the Palisade Mountain Foothills hike are each about 0.1 mile away, and Chisholm campground is about 0.3 mile off. Hyalite Canyon Road, another cross-country ski route, is about 0.4 mile away.
