Negro Mt 3 is a 3-mile out-and-back hike in the Helena Ranger District of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest in Montana, managed by the Forest Service. The trail gains about 426 feet, from a low of roughly 5,924 feet to a high of about 6,379 feet, and is rated moderate. Bikes are allowed, and the trail surface is natural. That makes it an easy option for riders as well as hikers. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July averages from the nearby Elliston weather station run around 81°F for highs and 46°F for lows, though temperatures on the higher ground of this hike run cooler than those figures. Winters are cold, with January highs around 33°F and lows near 11°F. Negro Mt 2 sits just 0.1 mile away, and Negro Mt 1 is about 1.4 miles off.
