Leigh Lake South is an easy hike of about 0.8 miles in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, on the Libby Ranger District of Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a short out-and-back that gains about 230 feet from a low point of roughly 4,938 feet to a high of about 5,167 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced, and the Forest Service records show it is not open to bikes or horses. That makes it a straightforward walk for hikers heading into the wilderness. Leigh Lake is about 0.3 miles away, and Snowshoe Pipeline is about 1.6 miles off. Big Cherry Creek lies about 3 miles away. For an overnight stay, Bad Medicine campground is about 9 miles from the trail.
