East Fork is a hard hike in the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness, part of the Sula Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest in western Montana. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back that climbs from about 5,400 feet to about 7,700 feet over roughly 20.7 miles. The route is long and steep, with a total elevation gain of about 2,300 feet. It makes a good base for exploring the surrounding wilderness, with several other hikes and campgrounds within a couple of miles. Hole in the Wall is about a mile away, and East Fork Cabin is about 1.5 miles off. McCart-Johnson Peak and McCart Lookout are both within about 1.7 miles. For time on the water, the East Fork Bitterroot River is about 3.2 miles away.
