Mortimer Gulch Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Rocky Mountain Ranger District of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest in Montana, about a mile from Gibson Reservoir. It has 26 campsites and is a base for fishing in the reservoir and the North Fork of the Sun River, where rainbow and cutthroat trout are the targets. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Gibson Dam weather station show July highs around 79°F with lows near 45°F, and August is nearly as warm at about 78°F. A 4WD vehicle is recommended to reach the cement boat ramp, about half a mile away. Bears may frequent the area, so food must be stored in approved containers and removed from the site after eating. Vault toilets are the only facility listed. The Sun River paddling route is about half a mile away, and the North Fork Sun River hike is about 0.7 miles off. Home Gulch Campground is about 2.2 miles away, and Kenck Cabin is about 9 miles away.
