The J. Harry Rich Trail is a short, flat cross-country ski route in Massachusetts, about half a mile from the town of East Pepperell. It is an out-and-back with a total length of about a mile, and the trail runs almost entirely flat, rising just 5 feet from the low point at 205 feet to the high point at 210 feet. The climb is so slight that the total gain and loss over the round trip are each about 28 feet. Winter is the natural season for this trail. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Nashua, New Hampshire, show January highs around 35°F with lows near 14°F, while December and February run only slightly warmer. The station sits at nearly the same elevation as the trail, so its figures are a fair guide to conditions here. Several other outdoor spots lie within a few miles. The Brown Trail is about 1.6 miles away for hiking, and the Ice Line Trail, another cross-country ski route, is about 2.2 miles off. Climbers can head to Chimney Boulders, about 5 miles away, and paddlers can reach the Squannacook River, roughly 7.6 miles from the trail.
