Trail D is a short, steep out-and-back mountain biking route in western Massachusetts, about 1.6 miles from the town of Hancock. The climb is brief, with a total round-trip gain of 305 feet over a 0.36-mile route, and it is rated expert, so it is best suited to riders with experience on technical terrain. The route starts at an elevation of about 2,065 feet and reaches a high point of 2,072 feet, with the steepest stretch coming at about 0.08 miles into the ride, where the grade reaches 19%. That makes it a short but punchy climb, and the return trip mirrors the ascent. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Pittsfield show July highs around 79°F with lows near 58°F, though that station sits roughly 880 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Several other mountain biking trails sit close by. Trail B and Trail E are each about 0.1 mile away, and Trail C is about 0.3 mile off. For time on the water, Kinderhook Creek, a canoeing route in New York, is about 2.6 miles away.
