Pleasant River Trail is a short, easy cross-country ski route on the Katahdin Iron Works property in northern Maine, managed by a non-governmental organization. The trail is an out-and-back of about 1.5 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 50 feet and a slight climb of about 2% at the start. Winter is the natural season for it. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Greenville run to highs around 23 to 25°F in January and February, with lows near 5 to 7°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures up high run a little cooler. Several other cross-country ski routes lie close by, including East Side Trail at about 1.5 miles and Brook Trail at about 1.6 miles. Pond Loop Trail is about 1.8 miles away. For hiking, Laurie's Ledge Trail is about 2.4 miles off.
