Mitchell Sinkhole Plain Nature Preserve is a 454-acre state-managed preserve in southern Indiana, about 2 miles from the town of Lawrenceport. It is managed by the state park agency. The most comfortable visits tend to fall in autumn. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Paoli show September highs around 80°F and October highs near 68°F, with fewer wet days than in spring. Several trails start close to the preserve. Trail 4 / Historic Trail is about 0.2 miles away, and Trail 3 / Karst Trail is about 0.6 miles away. Trail 5 / Lake Trail is within a mile.
