Glade is an easy hike in the Lusk Creek Wilderness, part of the Hidden Springs Ranger District of Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. The trail is about 1.1 miles long, with a total elevation gain of about 400 feet, and it is an out-and-back route. The highest point on the trail is about 600 feet, and the steepest stretch comes early on, with a grade of about 15%. The trail is on natural surface and is open year-round. Horses are allowed, and bikes are not. Because the Forest Service manages the land and the route is short, plan on about half a day for the trip. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 77°F and October highs around 71°F, while July highs reach about 88°F. Several other places are close by. Indian Kitchen Trail is under a mile away, and Bear Branch and Lusk Creek, a paddling route, are each about a mile off. Redbud Campground - Bell Smith Springs, about 6 miles away, is the nearest campground.
