Salmon Idaho Bouldering is a bouldering area in the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the surrounding country holds a cluster of campgrounds, hikes and other climbing spots that make it easy to build a longer trip around the rocks. The climbing here is all bouldering, with 14 routes spread across the grade range from V0-1 to V6-7. The median is V2. A few of the named routes are 3 Bar at V0-1, RIP Pants at V1-2 and Dad bod at V6-7. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Salmon run from highs around 86°F in July to about 74°F in September, while winter brings highs near 28°F and regular snow days from December through February. The station sits about 1,500 feet lower than the bouldering, so temperatures on the rocks run cooler.
