Stump Creek is a 15.2-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Soda Springs Ranger District. The trail rises from a low point of 6,396 feet to a high of 7,470 feet, a climb of 250 feet one way, and is rated hard. The Forest Service manages the land. The route is natural-surfaced and open to both horses and bikes. It is a year-round trail, and the nearest town is Soda Springs. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 80°F in July and August, with lows in the low 40s. That station sits about 1,100 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the ridge run cooler. Browns Canyon lies just 0.3 miles away, and Lander Trail-Terrace Canyon is about 1.6 miles off. Paddlers can head to Lanes Creek, about 2.5 miles away, and Pine Bar campground is roughly 5 miles from the trail.
