Pinnacle Peak is an easy out-and-back hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Montpelier Ranger District. The trail is about 2.5 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 391 feet, and it rises from a low point of 7,460 feet to a high of 7,955 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 80°F with lows near 43°F and only about six wet days, while winter highs stay in the upper 20s. That station sits roughly 1,600 feet below the peak, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. The trail is natural-surface and allows both horses and bikes. Deer Creek is about a mile away, and Sage Meadow is about 1.2 miles off. For an overnight stay, Summit View Campground is about 5.8 miles away.
