Mikesell is a hard hike in the Teton Basin Ranger District of Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, about 4 miles from the community of The String. The trail is an out-and-back of roughly 9.5 miles, with a one-way climb of about 460 feet from a low point of 8,342 feet to a high of 8,985 feet. The route is on natural surface, and the Forest Service allows both horses and bikes. The Mikesell Canyon Spur lies about half a mile away, and the Elbow Fork and Mikesell Canyon hikes are each about 1.7 miles off. Trail Creek campground, across the line in Wyoming, is about 1.8 miles away.
