Castle is a hard hike of about 19 miles in the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a total elevation gain of about 3,000 feet, rising from a low point of roughly 5,900 feet to a high of about 9,000 feet. The route is on natural surface, and both bikes and horses are allowed, according to the Forest Service's trail records. That makes it an option for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. Several other destinations sit within about 5 miles, including the Middle Fork River hike and the Furnace Creek hike. West Fork Morgan Creek Campground, about 10 miles away, is the closest campground.
