Schumaker Campground is a Forest Service site in the Darby Ranger District of Idaho's Bitterroot National Forest. It sits in the backcountry of western Idaho, about 40 miles from the town of Darby, and is managed by the Forest Service. The site has no fees, and the only facility is vault toilets. That makes it a simple base for overnight stays, with no need to plan around a fee or a full set of amenities. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 81°F with lows near 40°F and only about eight wet days a month. That station sits roughly 1,400 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures at the site run cooler. Several trails start close by. Lost Horse Trail is about 0.6 miles away and East Moose Creek about 0.7 miles. Bailey Lake is about 1.5 miles off, and Bear Lakes is about 2.4 miles away.
