The Mark Schaefer Trail is a 3-mile loop hike in Connecticut, about 1.7 miles from the town of Allingtown. It's a short, easy outing, with a total elevation gain of about 123 feet. The trail is a loop, so you can start and end at the same point. The route rises from a low point of about 157 feet to a high of about 295 feet, and the steepest stretch comes early on, around 0.28 miles in, with a grade of about 14%. Horses are not allowed on the trail. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Ansonia show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 75°F, with July and August peaking near 82°F. Several other trails sit close by. The Fishing Spur Trail is about 0.2 miles away, the Tulip Tree Trail about 0.7 miles, and the Pine Trail about a mile. Climbers can find Frankenrock roughly 2.1 miles off.
