Pinewood Reservoir

Colorado

About

Pinewood Reservoir is a park in Colorado managed by Larimer County, about 10 miles from the town of Lyons. The park is the reservoir itself, and trails begin right at its edges, so it works well as a base for short hikes as well as a destination on its own. Late spring through early fall is the most comfortable stretch. At Waterdale, a weather station about 6 miles away at 5,230 feet, typical June highs run around 80°F with lows near 49°F, and September averages about 76°F by day and 45°F at night. If the park sits higher than the station, expect cooler temperatures. Two trails start practically at the water. Shoshone Trail is about 0.1 miles away and Besant Point Trail about 0.3 miles away. Grim Gulch Trail lies 3 miles off, and the climbing at Big Thompson Canyon is about 4.4 miles away for anyone who wants rock with the trip.
